The initiators of the changes to the Paragraphs 2, 3, 4, 5 of the Article 328, as well as Articles 327, 329, 331 of the Criminal Code propose to punish illegal production for the purposes of sale, processing, storage and illegal sale of narcotic drugs and psychotropes and their precursors and their analogues (currently punishable by imprisonment for 5 to 8 years with confiscation of property or without) with a period of 3 to 8 years in prison, with a fine or without it.
The trade in drugs and psychotropic drugs performed by a group of persons or a person using official authority (or by a person who committed a similar crime earlier) on the territory of health care institutions, military units, places of mass events, as well as the sale of drugs or psychotropic substances to minors will be punished by imprisonment from 6 to 15 years (now the minimum sentence is 8 years).
Changes in Article 328 of the Criminal Code have been sought by the participants of the movement “Mothers 328”, who went on a hunger strike this year. Women consider the sentences under this article to be unjust.
On May 11, it became known that the Council of Ministers sent a bill to the House of Representatives on changes in Article 328 of the Criminal Code of Belarus.
