Alies Miekh to run for Belarus president

Deputy Head of the new movement started by Nyeklyayeu has announced has announced presidential bid.

Alies Miekh announced his intention to participate in the presidential race in an interview to Narodnaya Volya.

Euroradio asked the activist what his colleague, the Chairman of the movement “For the independence and statehood of Belarus,” Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu, thinks about his participation in the election (Mr Nyaklyayeu said he will probably not participate in the election).

In response, Alies Miekh suddenly said that he was acting according to the plan of the movement, which was being planned… when Mr Nyaklyayeu headed the Tell the Truth campaign.

“We have started creating our movement two years ago. We created it without Mr. Nyaklyayeu. A few weeks ago, Mr. Nyaklyaeu announced the same proposals as we did.  That’s why, at a meeting of all the national forces, we took such a decision. The decision was not planned in advance, it was taken after Mr Nyaklyayeu and I made a presentation. After that, people offered me to become his deputy,” said Alies Miekh.

Alies Miekh was born in Kobryn in 1970. In 2008, he was dismissed from the company Beltransgaz, where he worked as an engineer. He believes the reason for the dismissal was his participation as a candidate of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front in the elections to the House of Representatives.
