Sentence passed in Davydovich case

At 10:00 on December 28, the Minsk City Court passed sentence on Vyachaslau Davydovich (pictured), former policeman and member of the the Presidential Administration staff.

The judge upheld the decision of the Economic Crimes Court and found him guilty of illegal relationship with minors. The former head of the international “Help Orphans’ charity was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

He is now serving a sentence for illegal business activity without registration. In 2014, he was sentenced to 4 years.

The 50 year-old Davydovich did not plead guilty. He has not yet decided whether to appeal the verdict.

There were, at first, five criminal cases filed against him, but later some charges were lifted.

The court started reviewing the Davydovich case in February this year and it was done behind closed doors. The investigation links him to the “case of pedophiles”.

In 2014, two pedophiles who pretended to be cycling and football coaches were sentenced in this case. The first offender’s notebook contained 800 of the boys’ names. Two notebooks had been destroyed by the perpetrator earlier. The second pedophile told the court that his victims were from 8 to 10 thousand children. Both of the criminals were put in prison in 2014.

The “cyclists” lured children to the cottage, located in the Minsk city district Zatsen – the house belonged to Davydovich. He was detained in the cottage in August 2013, but the case against him was brought for illegal business activities and he was later sentenced to 4 years in the colony.

The head of the public association “Understanding” Andrei Makhanko, said that a few dozen more people could have ended in prison. “They are well-known people in Belarus. They even appear on television screens. They are still on their postisions”.
