Activists who collected 2K signatures for teaching in Belarusian facing trial


Some participants in the #Mova2018 campaign have been summoned to court.

Blogger and former political prisoner Eduard Palchys received a text message saying that an administrative case had been opened against him for ‘violation of the order of organization of mass events’.

A protocol was drawn upon Hanna Smilevich, Chairperson of the Youth of BPF, and activist Dzyanis Mandzik.

Yahor Serhiyenka and Alyaksandr Patapau may also be fined for their participation.

On February 21, International Mother Language Day, former political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich initiated the campaign #Mova2018 which took place in 11 cities and towns. Activist collected 2000 signatures for Belarusian as a language of instruction and establishing a Belarusian-language university. Zmitser Dashkevich handed over the petition to the Education Ministry.

It is notheworthy that the Minsk police put down the passport data of campaigners and took a video of those who were signing the petition.
