Russian ambassador: Another recession will kill Belarus

Ambassador of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov advocates the renewal of single currency negotiations between Belarus and Russia.
“We should renew the subject of single currency. The Belarusian system will not rub through another recession. Problems relating to domestic policy may well arise,” Ambassador told Interfax news agency. “If there have been any crisis preconditions the solution of the problem must be stepped up,” the Russian diplomat stressed.
According to Alexander Surikov, one should not take fluctuations in the dollar for crisis preconditions in Belarus.
“The holiday season which determines seasonal demand for hard currency has started. Moreover, the exchange rate of the Belarusian currency is fluctuating due to Russian rouble rate changes. The Belarusian ruble is related to the basket of currencies, the effect of Russian rouble’s weakening is dollar adjustment. But another structural crisis has not ruled out yet,” he said.
