Journalists detained in Minsk


In the centre of Minsk policemen detained cameraman Ales Lyubyanchuk and another independent journalist, who was freed soon after the arrest. The cameramanwas being keptin the Kastrychnitsky district directorate of internal affairs within two hours.

The policemen seized the journalists after they had interviewed Andrey Bandarenka, a human rights defender. Ales Lyubyanchuk managed to call and say that they had been taken to the district directorate of internal affairs.

“Six policemen were involved in catching the journalists, moreover, five of them were plain- clothed. The journalists were taken into the car; I attempted to talk to the policemen but they refused to introduce themselves,” Andrey Bandarenka, who witnessed the arrest, says.
