Ex-presidential candidate Andrey Sannikau celebrates his 58th birthday today. On March 7, 2012 coordinating group «For Freedom!» held a meeting of solidarity with the political prisoner.
«This meeting is dedicated to Andrey Sannikau’s birthday which he is celebrating behind bars,» Hanna Shaputska, an activist of group «For Freedom!», told journalists. «Until the political prisoners are released, we intend to meet on their birthdays. It started with [the birthday of – Belsat] Yauhen Vaskovich in Babruysk. Mr. Sannikau is very important for our country; he being the closest rival of so called president of Belarus.»
According to Hanna Shaputska, on March 7, 2012 Sannikau’s defence lawyer visited his defendant in the penal colony but the politician was prohibited from giving any information about his health and confinement conditions.
Birthday gifts from the activists (a Bible and white-red-white umbrella) will be handed over to Iryna Khalip, Andrey Sannikau’s wife.
