The US dollars price growth in Belarus hits record high


The dynamics of the US dollar price growth gives Belarus first place among former USSR states.

Country ruled for past 18 years by president Lukashenka well deserved the status of a leader. In 2011 the price of US dollar increased by 178,33 % – 2,78 times (from 3000 to 8350 rubles). The second place on the podium goes to Uzbekistan where dollar increased only by 9,45 %. In Russia which took fifth place American currency rose in price by 5,64 %.

This dramatic increase of Belarusian currency effects from the devaluation in and establishing free market floating currency in october. According to many Belarusian economists it was necessary steps because Belarus suffered with the serious deficit of the current account that provoked huge deficit of foreign currencies on the market.
