Qatar’s Emir wants to build a mansion in Belarus

Aleksander Lukashenka returned from his visit to Qatar with new ideas on how to save ruined economy. – They lack opportunities, we lack the financial means. It’s high time we started an active cooperation – commented the president.

According to Bielta news agency, Lukashenka proposed that Qatar invests in logistic centers in Orsha and Brest areas. The Belarusian president informed that emir is considering building a mansion in Belarus.

Lukashenka also talked about plans of creating a „Qatar island in Europe“ in Brest vicinity. Banks, companies, cultural centers, apartments, and infrastructure from the Gulf would be built there, according to Bielta.

Qatar is not the only Gulf country interested in economic exchange with Belarus. In March 2010, Belarusian president issued a special decree allowing for selling a plot in the Minsk city center to an investment fund from Oman. The plot was sold for 10 million dollars. Oman investment fund was supposed to build there a business-hotel-entertainment complex worth 150 million dollars, but until today no construction has started.
