Sikorski: Belarusian diplomats at the Eastern Partnership summit?

„Belarus is extremely lucky. Because of the constant repressions, the EU should have long ago cut all contacts with her.“ – said on Monday Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radoslaw Sikorski. – I hope that Belarusian authorities appreciate that despite their actions towards the opposition after the December 19th, 2010 elections, we still haven’t excluded them from the Eastern Partnership program“ – he added.

The next summit of the Eastern Partnership is scheduled to be held on June 29th-30th. Speaking at the meeting of Brussels center for European politics, Sikorski made it cleat that Lukashenka will not be invited, but other representatives of Belarusian government might be present at the summit.

„At this stage we are trying to figure out how to introduce Belarus during the Warsaw summit, and if Lukashenka again persecutes the opposition – if the representatives of his government should be invited“ – informed Sikorski.

The Polish Minister repeated again the EU’s demands – releasing political prisoners and beginning the process of democratizing Belarus. Sikorski added that should those conditions be met, EU is ready to help Belarus solving the problems caused by Lukashenka’s mismanagement of the country.
