3.5 years of suspended sentence: Russian blogger convicted for Pokemon Go in church

On May 11, Yekaterinburg court has given a suspended sentence to Russian blogger Ruslan Sokolovsky for insulting feelings of believers by playing Pokemon Go game in a church.

He was also charged with hate mongering towards the clergy for saying that Patriarch Kirill’s statements do not correspond to his own way of life.

The prosecutor demanded the defendant be sentenced to 3 years of inprisonment in minimum-security penal colony, RFE/RL reports.

Ruslan Sokolovsky was arrested in September, 2016. He posted a video showing him playing the game in one of the church in Yekaterinburg. It was built at the place of the execution of Holy Royal Martyrs – Russian emperor Nicholas II and his family. They were canonized by the Russian Orthodox church in 2000.
