Chairman of the Human Rights Center “Viasna” Ales Byaliatski is still in custody. The judge of the Partyzanski district court of Minsk, Natallia Dzyadkova, has dismissed the appeal of Ales Byaliatski. The political prisoner appealed the extension of his custody.

The trial was held behind closed doors. Since the lawyer of the human rights activist was under a pledge of nondisclosure, there is no information from the hearing.

Human rights activists of “Viasna” center Ales Byaliatski, Valyantsin Stefanovich, and Uladzimir Labkovich are accused of evading the recognition of the organization as a tax agent and performance of its duties, which means “they evaded paying the income tax to be calculated, withheld from the taxpayer and transferred to the budget by the tax agent, by concealing the tax base for the period from 2013 to 2020 in the total amount of at least 113,428 rubles, which amounts to 3,911 basic units and caused damage to the state on a large scale”.
