Switzerland convenes urgent OSCE Permanent Council meeting on Ukraine


Switzerland, a current holder of the OSCE presidency, convenes an emergency meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council due to the situation in Ukraine, Ukrinform reports.

Such an initiative was made by Switzerland’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Thomas Greminger, the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship reported via Twitter.

The meeting will be held at OSCE headquarters in Vienna at 11.00 local time (12.00 Kyiv time).

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk on Thursday stressed the need to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, the OSCE and the EU at the level of EU foreign ministers.

Ukraine accuses Russia of launching a new military incursion across its eastern border. No comment is immediately available from the Russian defense ministry on the alleged incursion. Russia denies sending weapons and soldiers to help the separatists. At that, Alexander Zakharchenko, ‘Prime Minister’ of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, admits that Russian military are giving strong support to separatists’ movement in eastern Ukraine.
