Belsat TV press conference: How to win information war with Russia in former USSR?

Belsat TV, the first independent television in Belarus, has the honour to invite all indifferent people to a press conference devoted to the issue of establishing a European Russian-language television. The project may become a response to the Kremlin’s propaganda avalanche which targets the Russian-language citizens of the former USSR every day.

The conference is to begin at 11 am on Thursday, May 15, at Bar Prasowy, Warszawa, ul. Marszałkowska 10/16 (Press Bar, Marszalkowska Street 10/16, Warsaw, Poland).

The recent developments in Crimea and eastern Ukraine are not only the show of military power and subversive activities. Along with the build of military forces, Russia has been carrying out a kind of special operation – mass media’s deceitful attack on the Russian-language citizens of the former USSR. These days the unfair practice of disinformation has been intensified. Russian TV programs broadcast to the countries abroad are playing the main part in the propaganda drive. Moreover, the Russian-language segment of the Internet has also been taken on board: Internet users’ search and verification of information are impeded by stove-piping and posting bogus messages in social media and online forums.

The gravity of the situation is obvious, and urgent measures are to be taken. The world should be made aware of Russian media’s working style. Being on air for seven years with heavy odds against it, Belsat TV has gained experience which is unique for Europe and possesses deep knowledge of the specific nature of working in nondemocratic states of the former Soviet Union. Belsat TV would like to have its say in the discussion started by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy, Belsat TV Director, Aliaksei Dzikavitski, Director of Information Programming at Belsat TV, Paval Mazheyka, a journalist and opposition activist, are among the participants of the conference.
