Before storm: Ukrainian marines singing Belarusian musical band’s song (video)

Ukraine’s Cherkasy minesweeper was showing resistance to Russian militants for long: its marines repeatedly shattered the enemy’s assaults and made attempts to take to the open sea. Shortly before the final attack the crew members were singing song ‘Warriors of Light’ by Belarusian musical band Lyapis Trubetskoy, the video below reveals.

Ruby parts of sunrise

Are waking rage, burning inside.

Jump above the sky, brother’n’sister!

Golden sparks, spits of fires.

Cheer about the hammer in a powerful hand,

Waterfall Youth is in a fast river.

Bang the drum – pam, pam.

Barricades, friends, noise, rumpus.

Warriors of light, warriors of good!

Defending the summer they are fighting until dawn,

Warriors of good, warriors of light!

Jah Rastafari, they are fighting until dawn.

On Tuesday Russian special forces launched another attack which lasted two hours. Using a military helicopter, three jet-propelled cutters, stun grenades, the Russians managed to capture ‘Cherkasy’. The minesweeper was the last in Crimea which refused to haul down Ukraine’s colours.

Lyapis Trubetskoy is famous for blasting dictatorships and repressive machine but the song was written well ahead of the recent developments in Ukraine. Nevertheless, a lot of internauts regard it as a hymn to Ukrainian heroes and make videos in memory of the killed on Maidan. In the video below there are footage depicting Serhiy Nigoyan and Belarusian-born Mikhail Zhyzneuski. The both were shot dead on January 22, 2014.
