Ex-political prisoner gets married (photos, video)


On January 11, 2014 a wedding service of Pavel Seviarynets and his fiancee Volha Shylak took place in Virgin Mary’s Cathedral.

As it often happens in Belarus, Volha descends from a Roman Catholic family while Pavel is an Orthodox Christian. Ex-political prisoner Zmitser Dashkevich was his best friend. During the ceremony the bride was visibly thrilled while the bridegroom could not suppress his joy.

Uladzimir Niakliayeu, leader of civil campaign Tell the Truth!, writer Uladzimir Arlou, translator and teacher Liavon Barshcheuski, Anatol Liabedzka, leader of the United Civic Party, Vital Rymasheuski, leader of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, Zhanna Litvina, chairwoman of the Belarusian Association of Journalists, were among the guests.

The newly-weds got acquainted five years ago.

During the 2010 presidential election campaign the opposition activist was ex-presidential candidate Vital Rymasheuski’s aide. He was arrested after the peaceful demonstration on the day of the presidential elections, December 19, 2010 sentenced to 3 years of restriction of liberty for ‘organization and participation in actions that seriously disrupt civil order’. On October 19, 2013 Pavel Seviarynets was released.
