Maduro in Minsk, Snowden on his own

The Venezuelan President is making an official visit to our country. According to the both presidents’ security service, the former CIA agent was not on board of Mr Maduro’s plane and could not have been there at all.

It has been rumoured that Snowden might be granted political asylum in Minsk. But he is highly likely to count on Venezuela’s helping hand: Nicolas Maduro will take a decision on Snowden’s case after returning to Caracas.

But at the moment Mr Maduro is carrying on Hugo Chavez’ tradition. But unlike his late predecessor, at the airport Nicolas Maduro was not met by the Belarusian leader, but by Deputy Prime Minister Uladzimir Siamashka. Aliaksandr Lukashenka and Nicolas Maduro are expected to have negotiations on friendship and cooperation between the two states.

In the period of 2006 – 2010 Hugo Chavez visited Belarus five times, Lukashenka always seized opportunities to meet with ‘friend Hugo’ in the capital of Venezuela as well.
