African swine fever recognised in Hrodna region


Russia is banning shipments of pig meat and pork products from Hrodna region, interfax.by reports.

According to Artem Daushev, a representative of Russia’s veterinary and phytosanitary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor, the service holds information about a swine fever case at a private household in Hrodna region, which make them freeze importing pig meat, hog products, fodders from the region.

For no obvious reason large numbers of swine fell in Minsk, Brest and Vitsebsk region not long ago; the authorities tried to becloud unpleasant facts and did not comment on the recent developments.

But after Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor took preventive measures putting the best face on the matters has become a necessity: the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food has confirmed the fact of a flare of African swine fever in Iuye district (Hrodna region).

The Belarusian state veterinary centre has detected genetic material of African pig plague agent in in spoils of a swine belonged to a resident of the village of Chapun, Iuye district, the Ministry says.

At the moment veterinaries are extinguishing the focus of infection. African swine fever does not pose a threat to life and health of people.
