Deputy Foreign Minister Alena Kupchyna attended the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Eastern Partnership member states and the Visegrad Group countries in Krakow. It is interesting that Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey was expected to present our country at the meeting but his Deputy replaced the blacklisted FM for some unknown reason.
In her speech the head of the Belarusian delegation said that Belarus would like to continue pragmatic cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership and stressed the need to adhere to the EaP underlying principles such as equality and non-discrimination of participants, news agency BelTA reports.
In Poland Mrs Kupchina met with the Foreign Ministers of Lithuania and Georgia and with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fűle. The sides discussed the prospects of cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership and the development of cooperation between the European Union and Belarus.
According to the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ), it was Mrs Kupchyna who refused to register Belsat’s correspondent office in Minsk. Then the Ministry’s official referred to our contributors’ alleged law violations. Thus, it was the third time that Lukashenka’s regime had turned our application down. As Belsat journalists and contributors have to perform their professional duties without any accreditation they repeatedly draw fire from public officers.
