Nuclear power plant in Astravets: shooting forbidden


Journalists Ales Barazenka and Nastaśsia Jaūmien have been detained in Astravets where they were filming the nuclear power plant constructing.

“We were detained by two policemen in uniform but now we are being taken to a local police station by two plaincloth officers who possess warrant cards. We have been followed since our coming to Astravets. We were together with Anatol Liabedzka, Mikalai Ulasevich, Ivan Kruk,” Nastaśsia Jaūmien told Belsat TV.

According to the policemen, the journalists should give intelligible explanations to the fact of filming the construction works.

The construction of two nuclear reactors for the plant located in Astravets is provided in the agreement reached by Belarus and Russia, the reactors being supplied by Atomstroyexport, Russia. The project has faced opposition on both safety and political grounds.
