Justas Paleckis, the European Parliament’s rapporteur on Belarus, made the startling statement on March 19, 2013. At the moment the Lithuanian MP is collecting material for his report on Belarus.
JUSTAS PALECKIS, EP’S RAPPORTEUR ON BELARUS:
“Indeed, this issue is of first-rate significance. As far as I’ve understood, Minsk is no longer ossified and unwilling to solve problems; as I see it, everything is possible. But it is very difficult to predict when it [the release] will happen”.
According to the politician, the exoneration of the political prisoners is another discussion item. Justas Paleckis had meetings with heads of diplomatic missions, experts, opposition politicians, human rights defenders and representatives of the Belarusian authorities. “We hope that the report by Mr. Paleckis will help step up our dialogue or at least improve mutual understanding,” Andrey Savinykh, the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, said.
