Siarhei Hureuski was drowned while bathing at a beach in Rio de Janeiro on January 6, 2012.
According to an official of Rio de Janeiro health secretariat, Mr Hureuski died after taking a swim in the waters off of the Barra de Tijuca beach. Lifeguards pulled Mr Hureuski from the water alive after noticing he was struggling amid heavy waves and strong currents, but he died before reaching a nearby hospital.
The body of Mr. Hureuski is expected to be delivered to Belarus for burial later this week.
Belarusian-born Siarhei Hureuski was 65 years old. In 1983 he graduated from the Military Institute at the Ministry of Defence in Russia.
